Paddle boarding tips for beginners

First time on a paddle board? These tips will help you get up and stay up.

Start on your knees

Begin kneeling in the center of the board to get a feel for the balance. Once you're comfortable, slowly stand up one foot at a time. Keep your feet parallel, hip-width apart, centered between the edges.

Keep your eyes on the horizon

Looking down at your feet makes it harder to balance. Focus on a point on the horizon and use long, smooth paddle strokes. Switch sides every few strokes to stay on course.

Go early for calm water

The lake is calmest in the morning before the wakeboard cable starts running. Early sessions mean glassy water, fewer people, and a peaceful start to your day at the park.
