Lifeguard Jobs at Velocity Island Park
This is not a typical pool lifeguard gig. You will be watching over Yolo County's largest floating obstacle course on the lake, a sandy swim beach, and hundreds of guests having the best day of their summer. If you are a strong swimmer who loves being outdoors, this is the job for you.
Apply NowWhat You'll Do
Every day is different, but here is what a typical shift looks like.
Your morning starts with a team huddle and equipment check. You will rotate between stations on the aqua park (our massive floating obstacle course) and the swim beach throughout the day. On busy weekends, we can have 500+ guests in the water, so you are always scanning, always alert.
Between rotations, you will help guests with life jackets, answer questions about the park, and keep the waterfront area organized. You might help a nervous 8-year-old climb onto the aqua park for the first time, or remind a group of teenagers about the safety rules. It is a mix of vigilance and hospitality.
When it is hot out (and in Woodland, it gets hot), you are still working lakeside with a breeze off the water. You will build real skills in emergency response, leadership, and teamwork. Many of our returning guards say it was the most rewarding summer job they have ever had.
Open Positions
We are hiring across all lifeguard roles for the 2026 season.
Aqua Park Lifeguard
Station on and around our inflatable aqua park. Monitor guests on the obstacles, enforce safety rules, and respond quickly to any incidents in the water. You will rotate between elevated positions, waterside stations, and in-water patrols.
- Full-time and part-time shifts available
- Must be a strong swimmer
- Age 16+
- Certification provided if needed
Head Lifeguard
Lead the lifeguard team on shift. Coordinate guard rotations, run in-service training drills, manage emergency response situations, and serve as the primary point of contact for water safety across the park. Prior lifeguard experience required.
- Full-time, leadership role
- Current lifeguard certification required
- Age 18+
- Prior lifeguard or supervisory experience
What We're Looking For
You do not need to be a certified lifeguard yet. We will help you get there.
Strong Swimmer
You need to be comfortable in open water. We will test your swimming ability during the hiring process, so be ready to show us what you have got.
Age 16 or Older
Most lifeguard positions require you to be at least 16. Head Lifeguard roles require 18+. A valid work permit is needed if you are under 18.
CPR / First Aid
Current CPR and First Aid certification is preferred, but not required. We provide training and certification for all new lifeguards before the season starts.
Comfortable in Water
This is a lake, not a pool. You will be in and around open water all day. You should be comfortable swimming in natural bodies of water and wearing a rescue tube.
Perks
Free Park Access
Free season pass for the aqua park, wakeboarding, and swim beach on your days off.
Flexible Hours
We work around school schedules and summer plans. Full-time and part-time shifts available.
Training Provided
Lifeguard certification, CPR, First Aid, and ongoing in-service training all provided at no cost to you.
Outdoor Work
Spend your summer lakeside on a 15-acre property instead of behind a counter or desk.
