Velocity Island Park is unlike most water parks in Northern California. There's no wave pool or giant waterslides. What you get instead is a 15-acre lakefront property with a floating obstacle course, a cable wakeboard system, a private swim beach, and a full-service restaurant with lake views. If it's your first time, knowing what to expect before you show up makes the whole day go much smoother.

Getting There
The park is located at 755 North East Street in Woodland, CA, right off Interstate 5. From Sacramento, take I-5 North to the East Street exit in Woodland. It's about a 20-minute drive from downtown Sacramento and roughly 12 miles from Sacramento International Airport, which makes it a practical destination even for visitors passing through.
Once you exit, the route is straightforward. Parking is on-site and completely free. The lot is large enough to handle busy summer weekends without much of a wait, but arriving earlier in the day gives you more options for space close to the entrance.
There is no convenient public transit to the park, so plan on driving. If you're coming from Davis, the drive is less than 10 minutes.
Check-In and Waivers: Do This Before You Leave Home
Every participant in a water activity at Velocity Island Park needs a signed waiver on file. This includes the aqua park, wakeboard park, swim beach, and paddle boarding. Spectators who aren't getting in the water don't need one, and there's no charge for them to enter the park.
The single most useful thing you can do before your visit is complete your waiver online. It takes about five minutes and it means your check-in at the park takes seconds instead of minutes. For groups or families, this matters a lot. Trying to get six people through waivers on-site with a line behind you is no fun. You can complete your waiver at the waivers page before you head out.
If anyone in your group is under 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign their waiver. The waiver you complete is valid for the entire 2026 season, so you only have to do it once.
If you booked online through Xola, your booking confirmation has a direct link to the waiver. Complete it as soon as you get the confirmation email and you won't have to think about it again.
The Activities: What's There and Who They're For
Velocity Island Park has several distinct activity areas, and they operate independently. You book and pay for each separately, which is worth knowing in advance so you can plan your day.
The Aqua Park is the centerpiece of the park: a large floating obstacle course anchored in the lake. Think climbing walls, balance beams, trampolines, slides, and a lot of falling into cool water. Sessions are 50 minutes long and start on the hour. Life jackets are provided and required. Participants must be at least 6 years old. This is the activity most families come for, and it delivers. If you can only book one thing on a first visit, book this.
The Wakeboard Park uses a cable system rather than a boat to pull riders across the water. This is great news for beginners because cable parks are much more controlled and forgiving than boat wakeboarding. You don't need any prior experience. The park has both a full-size main cable and a beginner cable specifically for people learning. Staff will walk you through everything before your first pull. Riders must be at least 42 inches tall.
The Swim Beach offers reserved beach sites, each accommodating up to 16 people. Sites include chairs and a palapa for shade, with direct access to the lake for swimming. Beach sites are booked for a full afternoon (noon to 5 PM). This is the right choice for groups and families who want a relaxed home base for the day rather than structured activity sessions. Groups of 20 or more can book adjacent sites to stay together.
Paddle Boarding is available as a standalone rental. If you want a more low-key way to get on the water, this is it. No instruction is required for experienced paddlers, and it's a nice way to see the property from a different angle.
Foam Parties run as special events throughout the season. Check the events calendar for dates. If you've got kids who love sensory chaos, these are worth planning around.
What to Bring
Velocity Island Park is an outdoor, water-forward venue. Packing the right things makes a real difference.
- Swimsuit: Wear it or bring it. Board shorts and rash guards are welcome at all activities.
- Towel: Bring at least one per person. You will get wet.
- Sunscreen: Apply before you arrive and reapply throughout the day. The lake reflects UV more than most people expect, and Woodland summers are intense.
- Water shoes: Useful for walking around the park between activities. Note that water shoes are not allowed on the aqua park obstacles themselves (barefoot only on the course).
- Change of clothes: For the drive home. Even if you plan to dry off before leaving, you'll be glad you have them.
- Cash or card for food: No outside food or drink is allowed at the park. Costa Fuego handles everything on-site.
- A waterproof bag or dry bag: For phones and wallets while you're on the water. A cheap dry bag from any outdoor store works fine.
- Lock for a locker: The park has lockers on a first-come basis. Bring your own lock if you want to use one. Otherwise, leaving valuables locked in your car and out of sight is the safest move.
Pets are not allowed at Velocity Island Park. Service animals are welcome as required by law. Also leave glass containers at home: they're not permitted in the park.
Food and Dining at Costa Fuego
Outside food and beverages are not permitted at the park. All dining goes through Costa Fuego, the on-site lakefront restaurant. The good news is that Costa Fuego is genuinely a good restaurant, not just a captive-audience concession stand.
The menu runs wood-fired pizza, burgers, salads, and kid-friendly options, plus a full bar with handcrafted cocktails and beer on tap. The restaurant is open to park guests and to the general public, and it's worth factoring into your day. A table with a lake view mid-afternoon, between activity sessions, is one of the better parts of the visit for adults.
Online ordering is available at Costa Fuego, so you can place an order ahead of time and pick it up, or order from your phone while you're at the park. On busy summer weekends, ordering ahead saves meaningful time.
One exception: booked birthday party groups are welcome to bring a cake or cupcakes. The park provides complimentary cold storage until you are ready to serve it.
Tips for First-Timers
Arrive early. The aqua park runs sessions on the hour and they fill up. If you arrive at 11 AM on a Saturday in July hoping to grab a noon session, you may be waiting until 1 or 2 PM. Book your sessions online before you go, or show up when the park opens. Either approach beats showing up mid-morning with no plan.
Book activities online. You can book the aqua park, wakeboard sessions, and beach sites through the pricing page. Doing this in advance locks in your time, avoids lines, and means check-in is faster. During peak season (July and August), popular time slots can sell out entirely, so advance booking is worth the few extra minutes.
Weekdays are noticeably quieter. If your schedule allows, a Tuesday or Wednesday visit in the middle of summer has shorter lines and more breathing room everywhere. Saturday afternoons in July are the busiest times at the park.
Plan for a half-day or a full day. A single aqua park session is 50 minutes, but most visitors who come specifically for the aqua park book two sessions and spend 3 to 4 hours total. If you're adding wakeboarding or a beach site, count on a full day. There's more than enough to fill it.
Check the events calendar before you go. The park runs special events including foam parties, night riding sessions, and holiday programming throughout the season. Some of these sell out or affect general availability. The events calendar is updated regularly.
Complete your waiver in advance. Mentioned already, but it's genuinely the single most impactful thing you can do to improve your check-in experience. Five minutes at home saves you 15 or 20 at the park.
Ready to Plan Your Visit?
Velocity Island Park is about 20 minutes from Sacramento and far enough outside the city to feel like an actual escape. The combination of the aqua park, the cable system for wakeboarding, the lake, and a real restaurant in one location is unusual for the region. Most people who visit for the first time end up coming back.
See the Plan Your Visit page for hours, directions, and everything else you need to know. Check pricing and availability when you're ready to book. And if you have questions before your visit, the FAQ covers most of the common ones.
